Lyrics:-

Lyrics are a hugely important part of a song to explore when creating a music video. Therefore, we decided to use the lyrics of our chosen song as a base for developing our ideas.

Here are our plans written on the lyrics of "She Moves In Her Own Way- The Kooks":

So at my show on Monday
I was hoping someday
You'd be on your way to better things
It's not about your make-up
Or how you try to shape up
To these tiresome paper dreams
Paper dreams, honey

So now you pour your heart out
You're telling me you're far out
You're not about to lie down for your cause
But you don't pull my strings
'Cos I'm a better man
Moving on to better things

Well uh oh, oh I love her because she moves in her own way
Well uh oh, oh she came to my show just to hear about my day

And at the show on Tuesday
She was in her mindset
Tempered furs and spangled boots
Looks are deceiving
Make me believe it
And these tiresome paper dreams
Paper dreams, honey
Yeah

So wont you go far
Tell me you're a keeper
Not about to lie down for your cause
And you don't pull my strings
'Cos I'm a better man
Moving on to better things

Well oh oh, oh I love her because she moves in her own way
Well oh oh, oh she came to my show just to hear about my day

yes I wish that we never made it
Through all the summers
They're keeping us instead of
Kicking us back
Down through the suburbs
yes I wish that we never made it
Through all the summers
They're keeping us instead of
Kicking us back
Down through the suburbs

But uh oh, I love her because she moves in her own way
But uh oh, she came to my show just to hear about my day
But uh oh, oh I love her because she moves in her own way
But uh oh, oh she came to my show just to hear about my day

Shooting Scripts:-

Once our ideas had been decided upon we began to plan our ideas more thoroughly and created a shooting script using timings from the songs and lyrics.

Questionnaire:-

We used this to assess what people thought of our initial ideas, we wanted as much feedback and guidance as possible in order to make our video the best we could and hopefully to satisfy a larger audience.

Textual Analysis:-

We liked the use of the montage effect in this video, shown throughout the instrumental sections of the song. We thought the fast pace of the editing created an excitable mood- but also managed to confuse and create enigma. The contrast of the busy sections of editing against the slower pace of the song created a juxtaposition that we felt worked well and would possibly be something we would want to include.

I liked the use of the cross cutting in this video; the way that mulitple stories were being told simultaneously worked well. I felt it was a good way to engage the viewer and keep them entertained. I also liked the way in which Chris Martin's section was in bright colours contrasting with the other storylines who all appeared to be dull and dark. This made the artist stand out more and made the viewer focus on them more.

> Coldplay- Charlie Brown

In this video, we liked the use of the voiceover at the beginning before the song even started. We felt this would immediately grab the audiences attention and bring a new dimension to the video. I also liked the use of the black and white effect on the editing, I feel it added to the tone of the song. I don't however think the black and white would be appropriate for an indie song but we could to some extent use the idea and play around with different effects to suit our style.

Using Theories:-

  • Which theories might be applicable to your planned product?

  • How well?

Very evident: exactly as the theory suggests?     OR

Only in parts: some elements evident but some not at all or only minimally?

  • Is there a combination of applicable theories?

  • Which theory might help your audience to make sense of your product?
